New Systolic BP Limit

On Friday, September 11, 2015, the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) released breakthrough findings on the National Institute of Health’s (USA/NIH) Systolic Blood Pressure (BP) Intervention Trial (SPRINT) , which demonstrates that intensive management of systolic blood pressure to less than 120 mm Hg significantly reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease and  risk of death in a population of adults 50 years of age or over. 

The NHLBI announced blood pressure intervention was ended early so that the results could be disseminated quickly.  A paper will be published in the next few months.


More information on this ground-breaking clinical trial will be forthcoming once the data on the NIH’s SPRINT trial is published.
